Hip Hop Music Education Festival Speaker/Educator/Performer

I had the honor in collaborating with UMass Amherst at the Hip Hop Music Education Festival. The event is designed for elementary and secondary music educators, college music education majors, as well as community-based teaching artists and musicians. The festival’s guest clinician is Pete Shungu, professor at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Hip Hop MC/rapper. Prof. Shungu will help participants to gain a deeper understanding of the history and cultural importance of hip hop music, the “why and how” of teaching hip hop in the K-12 classroom, and techniques involving lyric analyses of hip hop, beatmaking and sampling, and how to use DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) for music creation with students.
